Event Description
Scheduled work includes posting signs, painting over offensive graffiti, planting pine seedlings and clearing brush along our hiking/nature trail. We will meet at Wells Mills County Park, Route 532, Waretown, NJ at 9:00am and will return around 1:00pm. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, hammers, nail pouches, a small spade or shovel, bow saws and loppers, pruners or shears. Dress for the weather on that day, if cold or damp wear layered clothing. Hiking or work boots should be worn. Insect repellent is recommended. Volunteers with four-wheel drive vehicles are especially needed. Persons who are interested in attending should complete and return the online registration form.
Meet at Wells Mills County Park, Route 532, Waretown, NJ. Arrive between 8:30am and 9:00am. Return between 12:30pm and 1:00pm. Last year volunteers helped to clean up 36 tons of trash. Please help make this year’s clean up another success. Bags and gloves will be supplied. An optional hike of the Forked River Mountain area will be conducted after the cleanup. It should take about an hour to hike the two-mile trail. All persons should be back at the park by 2:00pm. Dress for the weather on that day, if cold or damp wear layered clothing. Members of the Coalition will be able to participate in the Annual Meeting and election of members to the Board of Trustees. The Annual Meeting and picnic is scheduled for May 17, 2008 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Wells Mills County Park, Route 532, Waretown, NJ. If you are a member of the Coalition you will receive a written notice of the election about a month before the Annual Meeting.
Our annual canoe trip down Cedar Creek will be held on May 24, 2008. We will depart from Double Trouble State Park, Pinewald-Keswick Road, Bayville, NJ at 10:00am and return by 3:00pm. A donation of $10 per person is suggested. There is a three person limit per canoe. Bring lunch, drink, insect repellant, sun tan lotion, hat or sunglasses. Long pants and sneakers are recommended. No alcohol. We will provide canoes, life preservers and transportation back to the park. Persons who are interested in attending should complete and return the online registration form.
If you would like to try your luck at discovering an endangered Pine Barrens tree frog, join us on the evening of May 30, 2008. We will meet at the former Bamber Store, Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ at 7:30pm and return by 9:30pm. There will also be an opportunity to view several unique plants during the hike including, sundews, pitcher plants and the endangered curly-grass fern. A donation of $5 per person is suggested. You must provide your own transportation. Long pants and boots are recommended, bring insect repellant and a flashlight. Persons who are interested in attending should complete and return the online registration form.
