The Chamberlain Branch Preserve

The Chamberlain Branch Preserve is our newest preserve. Acquired in the spring of 2010 entirely with membership dues and contributions, it is located in the headwaters of Cedar Creek in Lacey Township, NJ. The parcel contains over 29 acres and is in the environmentally sensitive Pinelands Preservation Area. The tract is located on the south side of Lacey Road and is entirely surrounded by the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area.

The parcel contains a vast amount of pitch pine uplands. An Atlantic white cedar swamp is present along the stream corridor of the Chamberlain Branch which meanders along the eastern side of the property. The property has an old field that is a remnant of the historical uses on the property. Maps show the site was utilized as a homestead back in the 1800's and most recently by the Eureka Rod & Gun Club. Although no plant or wildlife studies have been conducted on the parcel to date, suitable habitat exists for seveal threatened and endangered plant and wildlife species. The land will be maintained in its natural state, with the exception of a possible wildlife/habitat enhancement project occuring in the vicinty of the old field.
